Research and design tax credit

Who May Qualify?

The R&D credit can apply to all businesses regardless of size. It’s not limited to high-tech or biotech companies with employees who work in "white lab coats."

Many businesses who have not previously claimed the R&D tax credit automatically discount or overlook their qualifications for the credit. One big misconception is companies who are government contractors can’t qualify for the credit. This is not correct. Another big misconception is taxpayers may believe that only "cutting edge technology" qualifies – which is not true – or that the law is too complicated and they haven’t been able to keep up with changes in the law making it easier for companies to qualify. While the law does have specific guidelines which must be met for expenses to be eligible, our R&D specialists understand how to quickly and effectively identify potential tax savings for you.

Changes to the R&D qualifications have made the credit rules quite broad; its application reaches across all industries. The following are just some of the industries that may benefit from the R&D tax credit:

  • Agribusiness
